Featured Property: La Paz del Cielos

The next Tropical Homes property to be featured is one that I personally have spent years researching quite extensively.  It is none other than the beautiful garden complex of Laz Paz del Cielos, a hidden treasure in the middle of Potrero, one surrounded by rolling fields, cows, monkeys, and mountains.  I spent 3 years living in my former home of La Paz, experieced everything that it had to offer, and enjoyed every moment of it.

Lawn, rancho, and pool at La Paz

La Paz del Cielos is tucked away in the middle of Potrero centro, and is found by following the road past the school, and then left up towards the mountains.  After a 100 meters or so, you arrive on a heavily forested complex, with trees and vines growing all over the giant walls that enclose the entire compound.  A large wooden gate grants you access to the expansive parking space inside, protected from the sun by trees and amazing foliage, most of which are mango trees.  In the gravelled parking space, the name garden complex becomes extremely fitting as the entire area is carefully maintained and cared for by the amazing gardener.

La Paz del Cielos pool

The first of the three buildings in La Paz is the giant rancho and outdoor kitchen area.  Originally designed as a restaurant, the rancho is equipped with a professional gas stove and fan that is extremely handy during rainy season blackouts.  The rancho area also has a sitting area, a bar with a giant freezer, and multiple tables with chairs to host a large group of people for dinner.  The rancho overlooks the glorious kidney bean shaped pool,  that is kept shaded by the mango trees that line the inside of the walls.  Cool in the dry season, not freezing in the rainy season, the pool is one of my favorite things about this property.  Bordering the parking, pool, and rancho is the luxurious green lawn that is perfect for lounging or a badminton net (taken with me).

The second building in the complex is in the left corner, a two storied building that has an apartment unit on each floor.  Sliding glass and screen doors open onto the cool, shaded bottom unit, fully furnished with two bedrooms, one bath, an big, open kitchen, and a large, long family room.  Large windows allow air flow through the apartment, and it stays very cool during the hotter months as it doesn’t receive much direct sunlight.  Sometimes when you wake up in the morning, cows greet you outside your master bedroom window through the dense ivy and fence.  Behind the bottom unit is a small, shaded fenced in area that is perfect for a small dog.  This space is perfect for a small family or couple.

The top unit of this building has an amazing wrap around balcony that offers a view rolling meadows and giant mountains, and a gate allows you to shut the area off as well.  Large windows in the family room and kitchen of this unit let the Papagayos howl through your front door cool down this apartment.  The high ceilings are one of my favorite parts of this apartment, also with two bedrooms, one bath, a large kitchen and large family room.  The view in the master bedroom when you wake up in the morning will take your breath away, the sun shining over the green mountain, the wind dancing in the fields.  This is a wonderful apartment, and easily accommodates a couple or small family.

La Paz top floor apartment

The third building in Laz Paz is two stories as well, with two identical units on the top and two identical units on the bottom.  The bottom floor apartments are both one bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen, and have an amazing outdoor tile patio, protected from both sun and rain by the apartments above.  This effectively doubles your kitchen/sitting space in these apartments, where I personally spent a year of my time.  Each boasts a large bed, a ton of storage space, and extremely low electricity bills; both bottom units are protected from the sun and are easy to keep cool.  This was a perfect place for me to live by myself.

Top floor single, La Paz

The top floor has two identical units that I spent the last two years investigating (living in).  These apartments have a wrap around balcony and amazing views, while still getting good protection from the sun.  Large glass windows and a sliding glass door let you entire the sun room/family room of this apartment, complete with fans and high ceilings.  The kitchen area is extremely spacious and stays cool while cooking thanks to the amazing air flow of these units.  The kitchen takes you past the one bathroom to the large master bedroom, with a king sized bed and sliding glass doors to the back balcony, giving you privacy and serenity.  One of the units even features a murphy bed in the sun room, complete with curtains, making a perfect room for visitors.

I cannot express the magnificence of the sunrises and sunsets over the trees and flowers in this amazing place.  I spent many a moment lounging in the pool, sitting in a hammock underneath the trees, reading in the rancho.  La Paz del Cielos is extremely peaceful and quiet, a temple of tranquility off the beaten path.  Still, a three minute walk brings you into the town, and to the beach, with access to many fields, mountains, and other secluded beaches in the area.  If you value your privacy and your space, La Paz del Cielos is the place for you, as it was for me for so long. Your short term vacation will very quickly turn in to a long term vacation here, you have been warned.  Thanks again for stopping by for this installment of the featured properties of Tropical Homes!
